linux mint xfce will not mount usb stick automatically

I'm running linuxmint 17 xfce 64bit 3.13.0-24 generic.
I can't get the installation to recognize and mount a usb stick automatically.
I made sure that the settings in 'removable drives and media' were checked.
The other option is to mount it manually, however I would like to understand what the software issue is with this problem and how to correct it.
Would appreciate any insight into this issue and it's solution.
Thanks

I guess you're using Thunar? Is 'thunar-volman' installed?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...xternal_drives

I'm not using XFCE, but many DE's just notify and only actually mount when the removable device icon is clicked on.

Yes to both.
Did some further research yesterday and found a solution:

Using automount is handy, still like to use the terminal window though, keeps one sharp.

Thanks for your input.

No worries, but it might be nice for others who come searching to describe exactly what you needed to do (as the thread you linked to mentioned a number of ideas).

final resolution?

"No worries, but it might be nice for others who come searching to describe exactly what you needed to do (as the thread you linked to mentioned a number of ideas)".

Ferrari: Honestly, if I knew which of the solutions mentioned in the referenced webpage worked, I'd be happy to detail it further.
I was running 2 different machines, one running XFCE 17 and the other 17.1, both with the same problem.
After following the suggestions on the webpage, the 17.1 machine responded and the 17 did not, so in frustration, I updated the
17 vs. to 17.1 and it still didn't work.
If I discover the real issue(s), I'll gladly post the results so others will benefit w/o having to spend countless hours
researching the web. In the meantime, the suggestions on that web page are the best to date, IMO.

Okay, thanks for the update. Others who come searching will have to read/disect the thread for themselves
