Linux Mint 11 Tri Display Solutions with onboard graphics and PCI graphics

I've been working to try and get triple displays on Linux Mint 11 for a while now. But first some information on my hardware setup: CPU: Socket LGA 775 Core 2 Duo (model not important for our purposes) Motherboard: MSI motherboard with integrated intel graphics (onboard graphics are fried, I'm working on sorting out a new motherboard at present) and 1 PCI-E 2.1 x16 slot PCI-E 2.1 x16 Graphics: ATI Radeon 5770 1gb GDDR5 Power supply: 700W System Memory: 4GB Swap: Dynamic, base set to 2GB OS: Linux Mint 11 Katya My question is, is if I enable the PCI-E card in the BIOS, would Linux still be able to recognize the onboard graphics (once I get a new motherboard, of course) and use that as a platform for my third monitor, similar to the way Windows machines do? If not, is there an open-source module I can download that does this or at least similar and can be re purposed? Are there any specific bugs that are related to Compiz and tridisplay? (aside from Compiz's usual host of problems) If so, does KDE, Unity, or GNOME work better with triple monitors? Let me know. |
On LGA775 platforms integrated graphics are usually disabled when adding a discrete graphics card.
Besides that, shouldn't the HD5770 support triple monitor setups with AMD's Eyefinity out of the box (using the proprietary drivers)? |
