Linux memory hog?
ok... on my last box I had 256K and there was only about 4K free...ok well the box was old, I thought maybe I should just get a new box... 2.8Ghz hyperthreaded 800Mhz bus with 512mb should do the trick, right....???
So I check my mem again.... and: free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 513688 370992 142696 0 24344 145436 -/+ buffers/cache: 201212 312476 Swap: 1092380 0 1092380 ???? is this normal? Its a new install and I dont have anything crazy running..but 370mb used? WTF? |
that's normal. linux uses memory differently than you might be used to with windows. also notice that your swap file is still unused. check the forum for discussions of the same question.
