Linux installation on Packard Bell desktop

I?m trying to install several linux versions on my PC. But many problems occur. Maybe several uncompatible devices installed on my PC can cause them. Installation of Mandrake 10.1 through CDROM seems to be impossible, while using the boot floppy (created under WINDOWS XP) gives the error message ?NO CDROM DEVICE FOUND?.
Installation of Fedora 3.0 gives problems under graphical mode (anaconda don?t starts). In text mode the installation succeeds but linux doesn?t starts under graphical mode.

What do you suggest to solve the problem?

In the following there is a brief description of hardware installed on my PC:

Model: Packard Bell IXTREME H5523

Motherboard: Sunshine (GA-8I915PM Ver 1.1)
Processor: Pentium 4 (3.4 Ghz)
Video card: ATI Radeon X600 pro on PCI Express
HDD: 2 x 160 Gb devices, HDD Seagate Alpine Puma S-ATA
CDROM: HLDS GDR-8163B 16x DVD-ROM/40x Hitachi
DVD R/W: NEC ND-3500A DVD±RW DL drive
Network I/F card: on board
Modem: Modem Aztech MSP2900-W_

Thank You in advance

In your bios, set one of your optical drives to be bootable, and place the CD in there. Your system is sufficiently new that booting from the drives should be trivial.

I am not sure about the FC3 installer. If you don't get a reply here, maybe the fedora forum can be of help. Or you could use gentoo.
