Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Linux freindly affordable NAS storage recommendations

Hi all,
I've been using a NAS storage device on my home network to store all my music, video and pix. It's a buffalo Linkstation 250 GB. Works really well (after a little tweaking with /etc/fstab). Anyway, they don't sell the same model anymore, and now that I'm half-full (space-wise), I'm thinking I should buy another NAS (or multiple) to backup what I've got, and possibly to just expand total space on my network.

Does anybody have any suggestions on good affordable NAS devices? My criteria are 250GB or more, inexpensive, wired ethernet, not a piece of junk, and plays nicely with Linux (mounting) and windows. I assume that means it should run samba.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any thoughts and feedback from any of you who have opinions. Thanks!

You might look here: http://www.kurobox.com/revolution/what.html

The kuro is essential the buffalo without a hard drive installed. The above link has a lot of information and links.

Could build your own NAS box with something like FreeNAS and an old PC..

A friend of mine put one of these together with a really really old PC and says he's amazed at how well it works and how stable it is..Would give you the option of simply adding Hard drives to expand the storage, limited only by the number of IDE or SATA interfaces in the system.
