run sndconfig, either interminal (by typeing 'sndconfig'), or it should be somewhere in one of the tools, or system menus. If you get an error, it should be on the red hat 8 cds. I have an soundblaster 128 and sndconfig fixed it right up for me. (when i was running redhat 8)

Any other troubles, post back here!

First off what is your sound card?? Any creative card should work fine. Do you get any errors?? Have you recently installed a new sound card?? I don't mean to be condescending, but make sure all you check all your connections. Also, if you're just using an onboard soundcard, it might be time to upgrade. You could probably get a soundblaster 128 (same as me) for under $40 Cdn (under $25 or $30 american)
