In our team, we have three engineers who are working on the mechanical side of the device. As they progress, we are all looking into the possibilities of application of the tool an into the technicalities that need to be tackled to make the device "talk" to the computer.
With that in mind, I was wondering if you would be able to provide any kind of advice in terms of the technical specifications to be met by such a device to communicate with Linux.
Could I please get information more layman oriented? It is not anyone in the team that is going to do the hardware-computer handshake, because none of us has the necessary background. Still, even before we outsource the task to professionals, we would like to get some rough idea of what is there to be dealt with along the way.
What I would need is some guidance in terms of what big steps need to be taken once the mechanics of the controller is sorted out.
1. Is it correct that the device needs to be sending ASCII code?
2. Does the device require USB compliance certificate or is getting it optional?
3. Are there any linux-specific requirements to be tackled on top of the usb ones?
