Linux compatible external sound card

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 running Ubuntu os and I would like to know if I can reconfigure the mic jack for audio line in?

Alternatively,

Does anyone know which Linux compatible external soundcards are available in the UK?

Thanks

Other than the fact that the mike jack is probably mono, and you most likely want stereo for line in, you can use the mike jack as long as the levels are correct. I have Griffin GC16031 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Griffin-GC16...8858356&sr=8-1 usb sound card that has worked with every major linux distro, and I have tested it on a multitude of different PC's. From what I understand, theoretically all USB sound cards should work.

Thanks a lot.

I had assumed additional sw was required. Evidently not?
