Linux and an hp laserjet

I have 4 computers running Mandrake 9.1 that I would like to access an HP LaserJet printer with. I have a generic printserver (it has no markings, but says its compatible with linux. I have a manual, but I can't seem to find out what company made the printserver) set up on the printer. I know the ip, and everything that I would need to set it up, but I have no idea how to set up the computers to access the printer under linux.

There are two windows workstations that use the printserver, so I know that it functions. I've tried using the web access (http://localhost:631), but I haven't had any luck with this particular printer (although i did get it to print off another printserver [hp jetdirect printserver] in another room by accident :D )

Any ideas? Should I just toss the generic printserver, and get another jet direct like the one i accidentally got to work? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

When setting it up in Linux what port did you use? some of the HP's use port 9100, 9101, 9102, as well as 631. I had several different problems with MDK 9.1 and am now using MDK 9.2 RC-2 Don't know if that will help you. But may be woth a try.
