LILO not installing to MBR

I installed Slackware 11.0 on an old machine of mine, and LILO isn't installing to the MBR. The server has two SCSI drives, and I'm using the cd, and the jfs.s kernel to boot the machine at the moment. I've also tried installing GRUB and that didn't install either. The only boot loader I've had success with, is whatever one comes with debian. Any ideas as to why LILO/GRUB wouldn't install to the MBR? I don't want to have to use the CD every time I want to boot the machine.

Thanks

Well, during the installation, when you are asked where to install lilo, do you actually select the MBR option? IIRC, it's not the default, so you have to make a point to choose it

Yes, I'm telling it to install to the MBR.
