/lib/firmware...
Hello all,
I'm new to Linux, and have so far spent several hours working with a new distribution I downloaded to my notebook (Mandriva 2007 Free) and am understanding a lot of the concepts. Being a Windows veteran, I find installing device drivers to be a bit confusing. Currently, I'm trying to get my Intel Wireless adapter to work... Here are my symptoms...
I have the appropriate driver and firmware files
Mandriva will not allow logins as root
I get an access denied message anytime I try to put my fw files in /lib/firmware
System says /lib/firmware is owned by ROOT and only ROOT has permissions
I moved my account to the ROOT group, but that changes nothing.
I see a lot of posts that say, "Just copy the .fw files to the /lib/firmware folder, then..." and I say, "Hey wait! That part didn't work!" What am I doing wrong?
