Lexmark X1195 printer installs but doesn't print.
Hi,
I'm new to this forum, as well as linux and suse.
Recently installed suse 10.1 (kernel = 2.6.16.13-4-default) on an AMD XP2000+/256MB machine. Installed my lexmark X1195 USB printer with no problems, as X1100 type (only relevant driver offered). But it does not print. When a job is sent to the printer, it makes a noise like it is about to feed a sheet into the printer, but no sheet is fed, and no printing happens. If there is already a sheet, that sheet is cleared, but no printing happens.
I found a website saying that X1195 is known good for linux, but only under udev, and I don't even know what that is. Further checking informed me that going over to udev "is actually quite easy. Unless you've never compiled a kernel before....". Omigod. I confess - I've never compiled a single kernel before!
Is there not a better way to try to get this type of printer working?
regards...... andrew.
