LCD screen goes black after installation

Hello, I am a newbie

Red Hat Enterprise AS3
Kernel: 2.4.21-4.0EL
Acer: 17inch LCD Monitor
VGA: Integrated VIA S# ProSavage8 Graphics 8mb onboard

I have the following problem:

After a fresh installation, I booted for the first time. Everything seemed ok until Linux tried to switch to graphics mode. Then the screen went black and a message (coming from the montor itself) saying:

"Analog RGB 960x70 / 27 Hz Out of range"

During the installation process, I had to choose " non graphical installation" or else the same symptom would occur.

Can you help me to get my system running in graphical mode?

Thank you

Dom

Is your monitor capable of 27hz?

check the back of your monitor for the specs.

No, it says 56-75 Hz.

Does that mean that the refresh rate of linux's graphical interface is set to such a low value ??!

How can I change these settings in text mode to be able to reboot and work with the graphic interface ?

Thanks for the help guys

Once you boot into the console, you might want to check /etc/X11/xorg.conf. You should be able to find a section "Monitor". Does everything in the section match your monitor's specs?
I had to do this to get my lcd to work properly in FC2, so I'm assuming it's similar in Enterprise.

If that doesn't help, you might try using the DVI connector on your monitor, if it has one; the complaint seems to be coming from the analog connection.

Hi

thanks for the answer. But I have more (stupid?) questions.

1. How do I boot without the raphical interface to start up?

2. How do I edit the settings in the mentioned file ?

thanks
