I am considering upgrading my monitor and am looking at replacing my current CRT Monitor with an LCD. The one I am considering is a Sharp LL-171G, the other possibilities are a Viewsonic VP171s or Iiyama Prolite E431S. Does anyone have experience of using any of these with Linux particularly the Sharp. Or can anyone offer general advice on using LCD Monitors with Linux. I am using Suse 9.1
I'm using a BENQ FP937S under Fedora core 2, and it works very nicely,
one point though, make sure you know what resolutions and refresh rates your monitor can handle are, if you try to display in an unsupported mode you simply won't be able to see anything.
(I did this by mistake when I installed Fedora, and since it defaults to startup in graphical mode the only way I found to fix it was to re do my installation)
I am using Samsung SyncMaster 191t-plus - works great (I have a twinview set up with two of them). There was even a Linux driver on CD, so when you change your settings via sax2, you can use this disk to easily configure monitor section.
I'm using a Mag Innovision LT565 (yeah, not the best I know) TFT LCD monitor and Mandrake 10.0 found and set it up with no problem on installation. My only complaint is that the built in speakers aren't worth a plug nickel for playing CDs, but are okay for the percussion "start-up" sound. I bought mine two years ago when these monitors were still pretty pricey, and was limited to the 15" monitor. I would definitely go with a 17" or larger if I had to do it over again. 15" monitors are just too hard on aging eyes at 1024 X 768
Thanks for all the help, I purchased the Sharp LL-171G, and it really wasn't any problem at all to get running. I just changed the refresh rates etc and then rebooted with the new monitor attached worked first time
Zhenya, you said that you found the linux driver for the SyncMaster 191t-plus. I just bought that monitor, and can't find the linux driver (on the cd or the samsung website). I'm seeing a bit more bluriness than I'd like, and I'm wondering if I don't have it set up correctly. Could you please post the relevant portion of your XF86Config file, or point me to the driver, or other help? Thanks, David
