Latitude D620 - Headphone Jack Doesn't Work

I just recently got a new laptop at work (a Latitude D620) and when headphones are plugged in to the headphone jack, the system still plays music through the main speakers. Nothing is heard in the headphones. I've tried several things I found online with no luck, but was wondering if anyone else had run into a solution for this.

Relevant data:
Code:
$ lspci
0000:00:1b.0 0403: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
$ lsmod | grep snd
snd_hda_intel          20468  5
snd_hda_codec         163088  1 snd_hda_intel
snd_pcm_oss            56448  0
snd_mixer_oss          20544  1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm                96708  4 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer              26884  2 snd_pcm
snd                    60004  14 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore              10784  1 snd
snd_page_alloc         11304  2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
$ uname -a
Linux hcsdwtx 2.6.15-26-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Aug 3 03:13:28 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux
The alsa mixer contains no settings for this that I could find.

Any suggestions?

I can only suggest a couple of very basic things: are you certain that the headphones are completely plugged in? Obviously, once the headphones are plugged in the speakers should be muted. That said, considering that the laptop is brand new, the speakers are working correctly, but the headphones are silent when you plug them in, there's definitely the possibility that your machine's headphone jack is defective.

The headphones do work (tested on multiple devices) and are plugged in fully. I've also tried a different set of headphones with the same results. I do have to consider a defective jack, but I'll try booting into Windows later to test that.

Thanks for the input!

I was wondering if you ever got your problem solved? I am running into the same problem as well. My Headphones/jack works perfectly in windows, but not in linux(kubuntu). I even went so far to compile the new version of alsa, and it still plays from the speakers

No, I haven't gotten it solved as of yet. I'm contemplating trying to upgrade to a new kernel from source, in hopes that drivers in something like 2.6.17 might work better.
