Latest kernel issue with onboard video

Hello All,

I've tried to install some of the latest distros (Zenwalk 6.0, VectorLinux 6.0, Mint 6). They will not boot. Can't get the error message, but I think the problem is a conflict with the onboard video and a pci card I installed. I've removed the pci card and have been able to successfully install each distro. I then reinstalled the pci card hoping that udev would resolve the issue. The computer booted, but each distro was very buggy.

I'd rather not do that since the onboard video is a piece of junk. I've checked the bios and that says the pci card is the primary and the onboard card is secondary.

All kernels are 2.27.* and later. Computer is a 478 P4.

Are there any boot parameters I can apply that could help?

lspci returns:

Hi,

did you change PCI slot for the video card?

Yes, I moved the PCI card around to different slots, even used a different older card. Same results.

I installed Debian 5.0 with its 2.6.26 kernel and it worked after editing xorg.conf.

Not sure if this is common with everyone who has both a PCI card and onboard card, but I've always had to edit xorg.conf since the installation would always try to insert both cards into the Device section. So I would see "nv intel" in the driver line and in busId "PCI:0:2:0 PCI:0:10:0".

At this point I've just removed my nvidia card and am using the onboard card. Will just have to pass on the few games I liked to play for now.

thanks much.

John
