Laser printer for Linux

Hi:

I'm looking for a cheap, B/W laser printer. At first I wanted a network-capable one, but after seeing the prizes of these models, started looking to local connected ones. Don't know why, but I always preferred parport rather than USB for printers (is this important?) So I saw Samsung ML-2510, a parport and USB printer. This model isn't listed in LinuxPrinting.org, but a forum user said in this post it worked fine with samsung propietary drivers. There's another Samsung, ML-1610. This does appear in LinuxPrinting and is reported to work "perfectly" with opensource drivers. It's USB only.

So I think this last printer could work ok under Linux. Does anybody have more info about it?

Of course if anybody knows about a cheap laser printer which works good under Linux, please tell me.

Thank u very much!!

For 180.00 I would go with the Samsung 2251N. The cheaper models don't have an actual paper tray, they just have the fold down 100+ sheet feeder in the front. I'm picky I want an actual paper tray that holds a full ream of paper..

The 2251N is network enabled and supports LPR printing. Drop dead simple to setup on your linux (and/or windows) machine.

The only reason I havent bought one of these for home yet is my HP Laserjet4 that is like over 10 years old is still working. :(

Either way I've purchased about 10 samsung printers / laser fax machines in the last 1.5 years from the 1740 personal desktop printers to the 2551N workgroup network printers, and I have no complaints. I had one minor print controller issue that I identified about a Month after the warranty was up on one of the 2551N's and Samsung still replaced it at no cost with no hassle.
Good printers good service and Linux support. what more could you ask for ?

Whichever Samsung Laser you choose you choose you will be happy with it, I'm sure :)
