Laptop Monitor Failure
 

Hello all!

I am having a problem with my laptop monitor. I have researched the problem for a couple of days now and cant even seem to find someone else who has the same problem. Ill try to explain it the best I can. The monitor will flicker and distort the picture and duplicate certain areas of the screen and freeze the picture until the monitor is moved around (open to closed). During movement, the picture changes from random distortions, to full on gray screen with vertical lines in 3 horizontal sections.

The picture will go back to normal if the screen is in a specific spot and i torque the top left torward me a little bit.

Any ideas?

How old is the laptop? Is it VERY old?

Sounds to me like a wiring issue; like, the wires going from the motherboard, to the monitor, are damaged.

Of course, definitely interested in hearing others opinions.

No, the laptop is less than a year old, but unfortunately is an acer and i did not activate my warranty within 25 days, so its useless. I thought it was a wiring issue too and dove in head first. I made sure all connections were clean and well done, and got rid of way too much dust lol. It,s possible that its a bad connection, but nothing I have seen shows that from the inside.

Sounds like you've done what I would do: open the thing up, and check the wires and connections, especially if there is any flex-point in the wires, where the lid folds up and down, as that is where the wires would tend to break inside the insulation where you can't really see..

More in-depth would be to examine the actual (loads of) connections to the LCD matrix itself, but I'm not sure you could easily or accurately examine that at home on a bench; it might be that if the connections to the LCD matrix itself are bad, then the whole screen would probably be replaced, if a repair shop were doing the work.

You've found no other references on the 'net, about others with the same laptop and similar problems? Hmm.. Crappy!

Yea well I may have to, for the first time, sink to calling a repair shop (glares at myself). I cant stand the thought of spending too much money for something google fixes just as well lol. However, if I cant even figure out the problem at hand what option do i have? Is there a way to diagnose these things that i'm missing?

Maybe the LCD panel itself is defective/damaged?
