Hey folks,

I was wondering what program does Ubuntu 7.10 uses when it comes to battery, (I'm using 7.04 since 7.10 didn't want to work) the program that allow you to change the monitor brightness, lower when it is on the battery and higher when it is under power.

Any ideas?

Was version of Linux fully updated?
What chipset in laptop?
What video system?
Same problem in other current versions of Linux?
Are other users of same make & model having same problem?

Some Ubuntu versions have screen brightness settings thru power manager applet that normally shows on task bar as battery charge indicator. If you change to other power manager you may get better control of brightness on battery.

Latest development version of Kubuntu does do Thinkpad brightness with function keys. Some updating toward test versions may cure problem. Archive may be in order before your backport trials. Remember, a good solution solves the problem and only creates two new problems.
