kubuntu and labtec wireless keyboard/mouse

I'm running gutsy kubuntu and have bought a new keyboard/mouse - labtec media wireless desktop, which according to this post here
is compatible with fedora core 4.

Alas it's not working for me. There is a light on the receiver that blinks when the keyboard and mouse operate - so i know the hardware's fine, but absolutely no response from the computer.

Any ideas?
