Kodak 5300 printer found but not printing. (project abandoned)

This probably way TOO much information. Sorry for the long post.

I bought a Kodak 5300 printer/scanner a year and a half or so ago and then found that it would not work under ubuntu 9.04. So I packed it away. Now I find reports on several websites that it can be made to function properly with ubuntu 10-4 Lucid Lynx.

I downloaded and installed the recommended driver - c2esp. http://sourceforge.net/projects/cups..._08-1_i386.deb

I find references to the printer all over the place, but when I try to print something nothing happens. I tried the print routine in 'gimp', 'gedit', 'thunderbird, and 'firefox'.
The printer as a stand alone will copy and scan. About a year and a half ago it was connected to a Windows machine and worked.

Anyone any ideas why it does not work?
If you are here, THANKS for taking the time to read all this.
Dave

You are right---too much information!!

I don't see where you say that you actually "installed" the printer---i.e. create a print queue. Ubuntu has a utility for this, but I always use the CUPS browser interface (localhost:631).

Once you have installed the printer, can you print a test page (from the CUPS interface)? Can you print a test page using the button on the printer?

Another good resource:

Thanks for taking the time for the feed back.
I think I'm going to abandoned this project. There has to be something wrong with the printer.

It will copy and print in both black and color.

The unit has a place for UBS drives. Placed a drive full of PNG images and it told me 'no readable images on device'.
The unit has a place for sans drives. Placed a sans drive full of PNG images and it told me 'no readable images on device'.

I started playing with computers in the early 80's. I'm now 74 and this is the first time I've tried to have a color printer. I guess I can live the rest of my life without one.

Again, thanks. This web site is always helpful, keep up the good work.
Dave

there is a working solution for this

I've found the working solution for the print side, and it's here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cups.../topic/3731749

It was designed for the ESP series, but it also works on the 5000 series. This is for printing only. Still looking for a solution to the scanning.

Smile Kodak CUPS driver from Source Forge works fine.

The Kodak 5300 Printer Driver on Source Forge was the solution to my problem. I have a ESP 3500 All In One Printer. This driver works fine on the 3500, print only no scan. I also run this printer on Ubuntun 10.xx and I have to say, the lack of even recognition from Kodak is sad. Being new to opensource software I am very happy to see that help is available from just about everyone, except Kodak. Now I just need to get some ink.
