keyboard fails in x if no mouse present

Hi, thanks for reading

My problem is the keyboard does not work under X.
Here is what I have figured out so far:

The keyboard works right up untill X starts

I have the same problem on four computers I'm working on that all have Slackware 9.1 with 2.4.22 kernal, however, I installed Slack 10.1 on one and the same problem persists.

If a mouse is present (or even a keyboard plugged in where the mouse should be) the keyboard works fine.

I can unplug the mouse after the computer starts up and the keyboard works fine.

I have tried some different CMOS settings, but none have worked so far. This one is driving me a little crazy so I appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance,
jlarsen
