I am trying to compile a new kernel for my slackware 11 system, so I went to kernel.org and got the latest kernel source. Configured it to my liking, installed, and rebooted.
The kernel loads fine, and I can get to the login screen. I can even login and load X, but as soon as something tries to use the network, it panics. For a simple test, I logged in, and tried to 'wget http://google.com' <-which resulted in the kernel panic; but 'ping google.com' worked fine.(Or didn't crash anyways, didn't pay attention to the output)
The kernel version I was compiling was 2.6.21.1, I have an asus P4533-X motherboard, with the SIS962L chipset. In the networking drivers section of the kernel configuration, I compiled in support for the sis900(I didn't compile it as a module)
The network works fine with my current kernel, 2.4.33.3, with the sis900 module loaded.
Are there any special options I need to disable/enable when configuring the kernel to get this working right?
Thanks in advance for any help.
[Edit]
Just found this, Haven't had a chance to test it to see if it fixes the issue, but I have a feeling it will.
