Kernel panic after motherboard upgrade
I get a kernel panic, attempting to kill init, after changing motherboards (used to have an intel d915pbl, but I shorted it out  ). Is there something I would need to do after swapping the board?
BIOS sees all my HW and what not, so I think that is covered. It starts GRUB, but I get that kernel panic even in recovery mode. OS: Debian - (not sure which version) Mobo: Intel d945pvs |
Your kernel was built with support for features specific to the old board. When you try booting that kernel on a new board the kernel doesn't recognize the new chips and devices. You're going to have to compile a new kernel based on the new motherboard.
