m a newbie in linux. have a small problem.
i recently interchanged the primary master and secondary harddisks, and correspondingly updated the BIOS. LILO loads well, so does windows. but linux (mandrake linux 9.1)shows pages after pages of errors, stating some 'kernel panic'
i have the CD's ready, but after i type rescue, the program starts to load into memory, and then hangs in the middle. the error is apparently somewhere in the sectors, coz i pressed ALT+F4 in the middle of the loading, and it was tryin out different sectors to load from, i think.
You need to change lilo.conf to get it to boot the correct hda type i guess. Just boot from cd, and on the bootline type.
bare.i root=/dev/hdx nonintrd ro
hda1 is primary master, hda2 is secondary master hdb1 is primary slave. etc etc. The problem is that the old lilo is booting wrong hda right? after editing lilo.conf with the correct hda, just type /sbin/lilo and reboot.
do i have to susbtitute x in hdx with a,b or c? if so, i dont know the number ie hda1 or hda2. i used partition magic to find out that it was hda7, but it aint booting.
i tried the fol command at lilo
