Kernel 2.6.5 ATARaid
Hello,
I am using a Highpoint PCI ATA Raid adapter to run my hard drives. I had everything working with the kernel 2.4.26 installed with Gentoo Linux. I would issue the doataraid to the kernel at boot time and everything worked fine.
I have recently tried to compile kernel 2.6 and I'm having a problem. I compiled it with the hpt37x raid module and the raid 0 support. When I reboot I get this message
VFS: Cannot open root device "ataraid/disc0/part3" on unknown-block (0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0)
I have tried
root=/dev/ataraid/disc0/part3 (the command I use for kernel 2.4.26)
root=/dev/ataraid/d0p3
Also, here is my lilo.conf file:
lba32
boot = /dev/ataraid/disc0/disc
map = /boot/.map
install = /boot/boot-menu.b
prompt
timeout=150
vga = 791
image = /boot/kernel-2.4.26_pre5-gentoo
label = Gentoo
read-only
root=/dev/ram0
append="init=/linuxrc doataraid real_root=/dev/ataraid/disc0/part3 splash=silent BOOT_IMAGE=gentoo"
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.26_pre5-gentoo
image = /boot/vmlinuz
label = LINUX
read-only
root=/dev/ram0
append="init=/linuxrc doataraid real_root=/dev/ataraid/disc0/part3"
other = /dev/ataraid/disc0/part2
label = windows_xp
I have tried the root=/dev/ram0 thing shown above, and I have tried the two root statements I mentioned above.
Any suggestions as to what to do?
Thanks
