Kernel 2.6.4 External Modem Problem

Good day all

I have Mandrake 9.2 installed. I have compiled Kernel 2.6.4 succesfully. When I try and use my US Robotics 56K External Modem RS232 in Kernel 2.6.4, it says that it could not be found. It works perfectly under the old 2.4.22MDK kernel. Is there something missing in my kernel??

Thanks
