KDE prints blank pages

I'm trying to setup a Brother HL2070N printer accessed via a network under KDE 3.5 on Debian Etch. I've installed the driver for lpd from Brother's website, configured /etc/printcap with the network settings and can print a text file using lpr.

The printer shows up in the printer section of the KDE control panel but trying to print a test page or printing from a program results in numerous blank pages only. At best there is occasionally a few lines of stepped text at the beginning which I assume is postscript (it starts with %!PS-Adobe-1.0)

KDE is set to use LPD, with other settings left at default. (CUPS is not installed and is not an option at present due to very slow internet speeds.)

Here's the relevant section of the /etc/printcap file:
Quote:

HL2070N:\
:mx=0:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/HL2070N:\
:sh:\
:rm=192.168.1.250:\
:rp=lp\
:if=/usr/local/Brother/lpd/filterHL2070N:
Any suggestions on what to check or if I've missed something in the setup? This is my first time setting up a printer under linux.
