Exclamation KDE blocks sound? cant play sound from other programs.

I am not sure if this should be here in the hardware section or in the software section, but i think i may be hardware related so therefore i placed it here.

The problem is that i cant get any programs to play sound on the sound card i want.

I got two soundcards: one on the main board and one pci card. I want to use the pci card.

The only place i get sound from that car is from the KDE Control Center. It is set to use the ALSA driver, and when i press "Test sound" i hear a tune.

If i try to play music in other programs it fails, or plays on the other sound card.
XMMS says "Couldn't open audio" when i try to play anything with the alsa or the arts output. if i choose oss it plays on the wrong sound card. The same happends with Beep Media player.
If I use vlc it plays on the wrong card on all drivers.

In the ALSA config i have only one audio device to choose(deufalt)

Can anyone please help me? I will come with more info if needed.

Update: Installed and checked the "ALSA Mixer" it says that " C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738-MC6" is used, so i am shure that the right card is configured with the ALSA driver.

Message when playing file with ALSA:
Quote:

It's not a hardware problem. ALSA sound library (that talks to alsa drivers) blocks other processes (programs) that open a sound device. You have three choises:

1) Use the other sound card for other programs (but still, those blocks other programs to use that soundcard.

2) Make other programs use kde's sound daemon (dont remember it's name). You might need to recompile your sound programs or configure a module for them.

3) Make ALSA not block other program from using sound card. For that you needs to create an ~/.asoundrc file or a system wide /etc/asound file.

Read more solution 3 at alsa projects web site http://www.alsa-project.org
