i am running man 9.1 and kb3 will not config the cdrw although it is listed under the read devices like my dvd rom player kb3 talks about editing lilo which i do not know how i have ran gedit /lilo that brings up an empty edit box and a message asking me if i want to create it i have looked in mnt /tab and in fstab and the cdrw is listed how ever i have seen a "no" in the line for the cdrw
Most config files are in the /etc folder, there's tip #1. Also, hitting tab in a terminal will autcomplete things for you if you've entered enough of the name so that it's unlike any others. So, as root, open a terminal and type gedit /etc/lilo.conf and when it brings it up, look for a line that says 'append' and add hdc=ide-scsi in between the double quotes making sure to space after the last entry.
Only add that if the CD-burner is the master on the secondary IDE channel. It's probably hdd if it's slave on the secondary, and hdb for slave on the secondary. If any of that fails or you're confused, try it all.
When you're done, save it and type 'lilo' in the terminal so that LiLo can register the changes and then reboot your system.
Since Mandreck does things in it's own fashion, I'm hesitant to reply. However, in order to use a CD-RW under Linux you need a couple of things. First, you need SCSI emulation in your kernel, unless you're using the 2.6.x series. Second, you need append="hdx=ide-scsi" (where x is your CD-RW) in /etc/lilo.conf, and after you edit that file, you must run /sbin/lilo to make the change permanent.
I'm not familiar with gedit, as I do all my editing in xterm, but the file you need to edit is /etc/lilo.conf, so I assume you would do (as root) ->
# gedit /etc/lilo.conf
and add append="hdx=ide-scsi" but that x should be your correct drive letter.
/dev/hda = primary ide controller, master
/dev/hdb = primary ide controller, slave
/dev/hdc = secondary ide controller, master
/dev/hdd = secondary ide controller, slave
basicly i root the cdrw software reconise both drives but kb3 comes back with fstab error wit the cdrw and cdroast reader confguration it list only the cdrw and not the dvd rom als my dvd player apperently was ment to be with a decoder card but in windows i was able to veiw a movie runnng cinemedia player and xine will not see any of the video files wht do i need to do
