I have an MSI K8D motherboard with Dual Opterons

I am using Debian 2.6.8-2-686-smp a pre-built Debian kernel for testing before launching into installing 64-bit AMD.

The problem I am facing is with the onboard Broadcom netXtreme Gigabit series NICs. The Debian installer kept hanging at the tg3 driver loading. I put in a temporary PCI NIC card, disabled the onboard NIC in the BIOS and it installed OK.

Now I am trying to go back to the onboard Broadcom problem. I have built and installed the latest tg3 drivers from the Broadcom website without a hitch, but whenever I try to boot with the onboard NICs enabled, the boot hangs. I get errors:

pciehp..."driver not loaded...Operation not permitted"
...
shpchp..."driver not loaded...Operation not permitted"
...
pciehp..."not found...can't be loaded"
...
shpchp..."not found...can't be loaded"
...
tg3.c v3.66d
<system hangs here>

I am passing "noapic" and "nopcmcia" to the kernel at boot and have disabled apic and apm in the BIOS in case those were conflicting.

Could anyone familiar with installing Linux on this hardware please contact me?
