Issues with onboard AC'97 Realtek audio

First of all this is the onboard audio on a GB-VAX motherboard. It is realtek and uses the AC'97 codec. In a lot of songs the vocals are filtered out and there's always noise. The music just doesn't sound quite right. Has anybody dealt with this problem?

I don't know about the missing vocals  but I have found all integrated sound chips to be noisy. They have to be because the idiots that make them put it right next to the CPU.

If you want nice, quiet sound, my first preference is the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, my second choice is the Soundblaster Live.
