ISA pnp hardware modem problem

Hi, I'm kinda new to linux. I have RedHat9 linux with kernel 2.4 installed. My modem works fine with it. All week I've been trying to upgrade to kernel 2.6.8.1. The problem is that the modem is not detected in my new kernel. Kudzu says that the 'modem has been removed'. I have mod-init-tools installed and other utilities have the corresponding to kernel 2.6.8.1 version numbers. Both my onboard serial ports work fine. I have ISA and PNP support enabled in the kernel configuration. What should I do? Should I use isapnp tools or are they obsolette?

I had to edit kernel source to make it work. My modem didn't happen to be in the supported pnp isa devices list. I had to add its Id to the table. Now It works great.
