Question Is there a linux distribution that will work on my hardware?

I'm having huge problems getting any linux distrubition to work

SUSE and Redhat fail to even load the kernel because of my Promise IDE RAID card

Debian installs but with hardly any drivers (no networking, video or sound) so stuck in text mode

Gentoo was the most promising, but was very very hard to install and i messed up the bootloader bit in the end. don't fancy trying it again as it takes hours to install

The knoppix liveCD worked, but again no networking

i'm currently downloading Mandrake, but has anyone got any other suggestions?

My PC:
2500+ AMD CPU
1GB RAM
Shuttle N-Force 2 mini-motherboard (SN41G2 barebones mini-pc)
ATI 9600 pro graphics card
CD-ROM
10GB laptop drive (for linux, so i don't have to worry about re-partitioning my windows drive)
160GB RAID0 array on a Promise PCI card (windows XP, doesn't matter if linux doesn't see it)

"SUSE and Redhat fail to even load the kernel because of my Promise IDE RAID card"

"160GB RAID0 array on a Promise PCI card (windows XP, doesn't matter if linux doesn't see it)"

You could try taking out the Promise PCI card, installing SuSE or Red Hat, then plugging the Promise PCI card back in.
