Is my monitor supported?

Hey you all... I am using a Toshiba satellite 2595CDS and I just installed red hat 9 and everything is running fine except the monitor built into the laptop. I have connected a different monitor to the computer and that works very well. So I know that it has something to do with the refresh rates. I am experiencing a bunch of little moving lines along the display of the laptop and it is very annoying. Is there a setting/ driver I can use to fix my refresh rates or know what monitor setting works well? Thanks in advance!
:)

" Is there a setting/ driver I can use to fix my refresh rates or know what monitor setting works well? "

You can do this by logging in as root and running redhat-config-xfree86.

well that did not work... as I am typing text my monitor is flashing multi colored lines. Yet on my other monitor this does not happen. I tired to use the xfree86 but that did not work. However, i noticed that when red hat was loading... as soon as the "window manager" was loaded my screen began to display the problems... is there a way that I can get into the window manager and tweak it? thanks!

" is there a way that I can get into the window manager and tweak it?"

Yes. You can change the monitor parameters in /etc/X11/XF86Config

thanks... but that did not work. I have no clue what is wrong. It is interesting that at the login screen is fine until the "window Manager" is loaded. What is the window Manager? I have tried many different settings to change this in the XF86Config file. Thanks you very much for your help!

Also... I have been messing with the desktop picture and I have gotten to a point where this problem does not present itself. It was the desktop picture? As long as the desktop picture remains centered the problem does not show up! Odd... Does anyone know why this is?

so thats not it. It is the color... if I change it to 256 all the lines and jumble go away.... odd... and ideas?

"if I change it to 256 all the lines and jumble go away.... odd... and ideas?"

The amount of video memory that you have limits the amount of detail that the screen can show. You can have higher resolution with fewer colors or more colors with less resolution. So maybe your problem was that the combination of resolution and number of colors was more than your video memory size could handle.
