is intel core quad incompitable with fedora 9
hi guys today i bought a new pc with genuine intel motherboardDG31PR and intel core quad processor Q6600..... with 4 gb ram and 1 gb graphics card nvidia geforce 8600..... the prob is wen i installed fedora 9 on it everything went fine but after rebooting the system the system freezes on lo9gon screen of fedora...... even the screen doesnot show up except mouse pointer which remains stationary... what can the problem be??????????????
I would suggest it is something else. I have installed CentOS 5.1 on my computer and that's a Quad Core Extreme QX6700 and that runs flawlessly, considering that CentOS is a RHEL clone and Fedora is originally from Red Hat they should be similar enough... so I'd suggest the processor is not the problem.

actually the pc is not branded i bought various parts and assembled them together...the ram is of perx.. is it causing the problem....... graphics card is not the problem because fedora is identifying it correctly.....before anaconda launches

why don't you compare the xorg.conf file setup by liveCD to that which you have setup with your fedora 9
okay i have a q6600 in mine and it runs fedora 9 fantastic!
you dont appear to have given any info about the graphics card which makes things difficult since the card can be detected but i think fedora 9 uses the vesa driver anyway for the install.
you may wish to try removing quite and rhgb from your kernel line parameters and see if you can find out what it actually crashes on if it is the graphics then it should get past the loading stage first and you can edit things from there
hmm not sure how i missed that detail...
i would recommend that you check your xorg like mentioned in the other posts. maybe run System-config-display and check that the correct driver is being used. "NV" if the problem still persists also try seeing if vesa driver works. please post the content of /etc/X11/xorg.conf regardless.

Reason: missunderstood problem
use the install dvd in rescue mode .after a few screens you will be asked to type in " chroot /mnt/sysimage
then login as root
and edit grub.conf
use nano or vi
Code:
nano /boot/grub/grub.conf
the output will have a line that looks something like this ( fedora8 )
Code:
title Fedora (2.6.25.14-69.fc8)
root (hd1,2)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.25.14-69.fc8 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
initrd /initrd-2.6.25.14-69.fc8.img
title Fedora (2.6.25.11-60.fc8)
edit " rhgb quiet " to " rhgb " use " ctrl+o " then "enter" to save

Hi guys ...
I suggest to disable the ACPI on startup. Pass the noacpi parameter to the kernel on boot time.
Simple...I haven't read the whole thread just your first question but I have the same setup and had the same problem.
1. Start again.
2. Install Fedora 9 in text mode.
3. yum install kernel-devel
4. Get all yum updates (not essetial).
5. 'wget' the nvidia drivers from their website.
6. install. yes to all q's
7. 'startx'
that's it. no need to start messing with config files yourself.

funny thing.....
i booted the system in runlevel 3 and then after logging in i typed startx and the system ran smoothly..... but directly its not booting in runlevel 5......
here is my grub. conf....... the ro root arguement seems to be strange.....
# grub.conf generated by anaconda

#boot=/dev/sda
