Is a usb (1.1) port lan faster than 10/100 ethernet card?

I have a friend who has been wondering which hub to get....

Thanks.

USB 1.1 = 12Mbps (1.5 Megabytes / s)
10/100 Ethernet = 100Mbps ( 12.5 Megabytes / s)

Ethernet is by far the fastest of the two, altho i remember reading that USB 2 has a rate of 480 Mbps (60 Mb / s). I don't think your friend needs that much bandwith tho.

PS: keep in mind that the USB bandwith has to be distributed to all USB devices connected to the pc (mouse, keyboard, scanner, digital cam, etc) so Ethernet really is the best option for your friend

Ethernet is more reliable as well, as USB totally relies and depends on software to work, unlike ethernet.
