Is a INTEL 56K V.90\92 Hardware-Based Modem a TRUE hardware modem?

See:
I have been looking for a hardware modem on ebay and there seems to be a lot of so-called "INTEL 56K V.90\92 Hardware-Based Modems" for around $10. Are these really hardware modems that will work with Linux?
If not are there any cheap hardware modems that you reccomend?

Thanks,
Elijah

I am not sure about that modem, check out this site:

I've been wondering about those too. I looked at a bunch of ads and eventually found one that listed linux for that modem. Of course I just went looking for it again and couldn't find it.
