Irulu spirit book S1 Pro

Hello everyone,
So I bought a laptop and I'm wondering if anyone in linux-land has tried to install any linux dirtro on these. It wont boot from a USB and its setup bios does not have a turn off UFEI it seems..

I have tried and tried. May have to return it unless someone has an answer. irulu is apparently an American company.. But there is no literature on the web or any manuals for these laptops. Any help is appreciated. I've got 60 days to return it and get my money back..

Ignoring UEFI, what have you tried to boot from a usb so far?

Thanks for replying so quickly. It might be a good Saturday after all.. Well, I was under the impression that the latest distro's such as Ubuntu 16.04 and Mint 17 were UFEI compatible by default. If I am wrong would you guide me to on compatible one please? A link perhaps.? Much appreciared.....

Yes, probably 90% of all modern distro's are UEFI compatible, and probably 33% are even secure boot compatible. The one exception is if it's a 32-bit UEFI system, which VERY FEW distro's successfully support.

I'd be very wary of that item. The only reviews I can see are customer ones at Amazon, which can be summed up as "you get what you pay for". I can't find any report of some-one installing Linux on one. There's nothing worse than needing help for something that few people use and no-one seems to have documented!

If you really need a cheap laptop, I'd go for a secondhand model, preferably from a firm that sells reconditioned, ex-corporate ones.

At first. Being unfamiliar with the make and model and internals. I thought it may be a arm cpu laptop. But I see it is intel atom based.

I guess like Timothy mentioned. 32 bit bios on a 64 bit system. Good luck with it if that is the case.

Edit; In the same price range, but cheaper. Timothy may have a better option.

Last edit: Found this at Walmart to take the place of the out of stock ebay link I posted. Smaller screen size though. My 11 incher is a I5 Used Dell E4310 with a SSD and 8 gig of ram. My other 11 incher is a Dell XT2 Touchscreen with a dual core CPU and 4 gig of ram with a SSD. I paid 50 bucks for it used <taking a chance> minus a hard drive and caddy but posted to bios on ebay. No charger either.

This IBM T430 I bought used is a beast I bought for 200 bucks also. From a corp. sale.

But like cars. I buy used gear. Due to the price drop after it leaves the lot.

Last edit over last edit: OK. Out of all the things I mentioned. If it was me. I'd fork out the 199 bucks for the HP in the Amazon.com link I posted. Because I do not know if the IBM N22 is worth anything in the long term. Plus. The HP has better screen resolution.

Well after a whole Saturday morning exploring this Irulu model I conclude there in no way to boot a Ubuntu OS from USB. Their Bios is tweaked to not allow anything but windows. Cant turn off secure boot or UFEI. So I'll send it back. Thanks all for looking into this and replying...

I'm about 5 years late, but...

I have a spiritbook S1L, and the bios only reads 32 bit EFI files. Find one for the distro you're installing ind put in in the /EFI/boot folder on the flash drive. Works well for me. :)

How did you do it? I need help getting ubuntu on mine. Could you help w/ a step by step?
