IR configuration


Hi everyone.
I wanted to know to know if mi ir port was detected or if it is working. I wanted to use for starters the LIRC for xmms, then maybe try to control some system things using a remote controller.
How can I check if the port is working, or even better if the remote controller that I am using works.
My ir port come with my laptop Acer aspire 1522.

You are probably talking about an IrDA port on the laptop. This is basically a communications port. I don't think it is compatible with regular consumer-type remote controls. For the full story see:
