iPod problem with apple interface

Hi, I have old second gen i think, 2 GB Nano. It has a duel boot with rockbox and all is well until last night I was loading some podcasts on my iPod with Banshee and when I booted into apples stupid interface because my bluetooth headphones will not work with rockbox so I went to my podcasts like usual but none were there also all my songs are gone! I went to Banshee and seen if they have been deleted but they were there and could be played also can be seen in any explorer window, lastly can be played into rockbox with my crappy doller store headphones and can work. Can anyone help me with my problem I will format the thing if I have to but I will have to find a windows/Mac computer to use iTunes to format. Please help!!!!

the apple ipod software has a habit of REMOVING any music i put on it with gtkpod or rythumbox

but have you tried "gtkpod" for installing music.Because i think MY problem is that i am not making a play list .i am just letting it play the songs randomly .

gtkpod seems to be a lot more reliable than Rhythmbox for loading tracks onto older iPods. the 1st and 2nd gen Nanos occasionally mess up and don't load some tracks right - sometimes all of them - so the pod can't play 'em even though they're physically loaded onto its memory. i think it's a pod problem rather than a Linux one.

Should I fomat it?

Should I format it? Or what? I listen to my podcasts on it and want to use my good headphones!!! Thanks in advance!!

do not try to format a usb storage device .That is the FASTEST way to KILL it
if the ipod was FIRST registered / activated on windows (xp,vista) it is formatted to fat32 .
leave is as is .

I reformated it on windows and then went to linux to put my songs/podcasts back on it and rockbox and ever since it was fine.
