IPCop not finding all ports on Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual port cards

I apologize ahead of time if this has been discussed before. I searched the forum and found nearly related discussions, but not enough to actually help a newbie like me.

I would like to request help with some trouble I'm having with two Intel PRO/1000 Dual Port MT cards I'm trying to use in an IPCop box I'm making.

So, I've been reading as much as I can find both on forums and through Google. I would keep searching to find the answer on my own, but I can't seem to find something that is close to what I'm experiencing.

Like I said, I have two of these dual port cards. During install, IPCop finds the Intel PRO 1000 driver very quickly. (In all the scenarios below, I have the onboard ethernet port disabled in BIOS.)
1 - When I have both dual port cards in the pc (Dell GX240 - 20Gig drive, 512 RAM) and I install IPCop, it finds three of the four ports.
2 - If I take one card out and leave the other one in, then IPCop finds only one port (port A) on the card and not the second one during the install. This happens with either of the cards when installed by themselves.

So, when I have both cards in the pc, it sees 3 of the 4 ports. When I have one card in the pc, it sees 1 of the 2 ports.

I don't know what to do. If you can guide me to figure out what I need to do, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm certain that these cards can be made to work because in other posts on forums, I've noticed that people are using them. I know this has be happening because I don't know something.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Greg

More info to my first message

I've been reading (and learning more), so I thought I'd better add information to my question.

When I run the lspci command, I get the following output:
00:00.0 Class 0600: 8086:1a30 (rev 03)
00:01.0 Class 0604: 8086:1a31 (rev 03)
00:1e.0 Class 0604: 8086:244e (rev 12)
00:1f.0 Class 0601: 8086:2440 (rev 12)
00:1f.1 Class 0101: 8086:244b (rev 12)
00:1f.2 Class 0c03: 8086:2442 (rev 12)
00:1f.3 Class 0c05: 8086:2443 (rev 12)
00:1f.4 Class 0c03: 8086:2444 (rev 12)
00:1f.5 Class 0401: 8086:2445 (rev 12)
01:00.0 Class 0300: 1002:5446
02.09.0 Class 0200: 8086:1010 (rev 01)
02:09.1 Class 0200: 8086:1010 (rev 01)
02:0a.0 Class 0200: 8086:1010 (rev 01)
02:0a.1 Class 0200: 8086:1010 (rev 01)

Kernel version #2.4.36 (IPCop v1.4.20)

Another thing that I have tried was booting on the same machine an Ubuntu LiveCD. In this case, all ports (4) on the two cards are found and work. But when I install IPCop again, only three ports are available to choose during setup.

Oh, one more thing in regard to the above; Even though, during setup, I can choose a setup of three ports (Green, Red, and Blue), when the setup finished and I log in to the linux machine as root and execute an ifconfig command, I get a listing of only eth0 and eth1 and lo. The hardware address of the two (eth0 and eth1) are the addresses of two ports on one of the cards. It appears that the other card is invisible suddenly. The two ports (eth0 and eth1) are those I assigned the Green and Blue networks to. I don't have a Red anymore.

I'm not sure, being new to all this, what to do. Any help is much appreciated.

Greg
