Internal cardreader not recognized by F18

Hello, I am new to linux.

I am running Kernel 3.8.11-200.fc18.x86_64

My laptop has an internal cardreader installed and two linux distros; bodhi and f18. If I insert a SDHC card into the internal reader while running Fedora, then the card is not recognized. It is not present in the "disks" app nor under the devices section in the "files" app.

If I connect an external card reader to a usb port and plug in a SDHC card, then the card mounts and I am able to add and remove files.

If I boot my system with Bodhi, then the SDHC card mounts with either the internal or the external card readers.

What can I do to have the SDHC card be recognized and mount while I am running F18 and using the internal card reader?

Hi. Try running these 2 commands in a terminal
Code:
sudo update-usbids.sh
sudo lsusb
If you have any lines like this one
Quote:
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0bda:0129 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
google the number (in the example above 0bda:0129) +linux, and find out about it.

Thank you, cardreader functioning.

Upon entering the command:

sudo lsusb

I found that I have the 0bda:0129 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. card that business kid mentioned in his post.

For any other newbies:

I Downloaded rts5139.tar.bz2

unzipped with command:

tar -jxf rts5139.tar.bz2

opened the new directory with:

cd rts5139

opened the README.txt file with:

more README.txt

the README.txt file explains the rest clearly.

I have one of those with the 3.8.8 kernel and the driver is in
make menuconfig / Device Drivers / Staging drivers

Glad you're running. Mark this solved
