Interesting "dmesg" result, possible broken HD?

I keep getting a bunch of weird stuff during the boot process. It takes a while for the system to come up, but when it comes up, everything seems to work okay, but there are delays when trying to access external media (USB devices). I am worried about the errors in the following "dmesg" result and would like to know what to do to fix the problem and make my computer boot faster. Here's the dmesg result:

robert@T-Rex:~$ dmesg

If you google the error message (dma_intr..) you see something similar was reported as a bug on the Kernel Mailing List for kernel 2.6.17, and fixed by later updates.

Is this your kernel version? If so just trying a newer kernel might fix the problem.

Edit: OK I see you have 2.6.18. Might still be worth looking for later version.

Well, I am running an old Compaq Presario, so maybe I should try an older kernel? Also, I can simply upgrade the kernel through synaptic. If I need to upgrade or downgrade the kernel, I have to download the required packages off the net and add them to my repo folder in my home directory. I am hoping that I can just make one small change to some config files and that should fix it, as this was the case with most hardware problems on Linux. I will continue to google around a bit, but I don't think I'm going to find anything. If anyone here knows how I can get rid of these errors, by all means, please post.
