intel8x0.o: init_module: No such device

[root@mike alsa-driver-1.0.4]# modprobe snd-intel8x0;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg WHERE do i get this file?
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2115.nptl/kernel/sound/pci/snd-intel8x0.o: insmod snd-intel8x0 failed
[root@mike alsa-driver-1.0.4]#

and theres my problem after following the directions from
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...odule=intel8x0

i get to the
modprobe snd-intel8x0;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss
part and i get that error...

nforce2 chipset board w/ nforce2 ac97 audio controller MCP

do i need to remove oss first? how do i do that? i have searched but no one has the same problem as me...

I have a intel 8xx soundcard as well, and I have found that the OSS drivers actually work better than the alsa ones. You may consider switching it over, and trying the OSS driver instead?

I am using an intel8x0 with the latest ALSA and having no problems at all. It took the latest to get surround working (still emulated though) but the ALSA driver is great.
