intel wifi link 5100 in ubuntu 10.04 not connecting

Ok I have seen tons of threads on the internet about Ubuntu 10.04 having wireless issues but none of them have lead to me fixing the problem so I decided to come here. I have been able to connect to access points before but sometimes I have to reboot or reboot twice just to be able to see the wireless points and the enable wireless is always greyed out. And if I am connected to an AP or hardwire the connection drops frequently.
I wish I already knew what commands to run and print out for you gurus out there to help me, but im not that much of a command line whiz and these networking problems are so frustrating never experienced something like this with previous releases.

Hello mikeandike22.

So the card work in previous releases of Ubuntu? If it did, the problem might be isolated to Lucid (10.04). From what I'm reading as well, Lucid does have a lot of Wireless issues. Run this command: "lspci" without the quotes in a terminal, and post the output. This will tell us if Ubuntu is seeing the card at all.
