Angry Intel v.90 modem

Hi
i was wondering if i could get some help as i am a linux newbie and all
well.. i have redhat 8.0.. and a intel v.90 modem
i'm not to sure if i used the right drivers but i downloaded the drivers called Intel-v92ham-453.tgz and Intel-v92ham-453-R80.tgz

on installation.. everythin goes fine but when i reach the make install it says error loading ham

i looked at the make ham carefully and the only things i found which could be errors was
/boot/vmlinuz.autoconf.h ---- no such file or directory
/boot/vmlinux.version.h ---- no such file or directory
version.h matches kernel

if u can help me in any way i'd be grateful
if u know what location to get the linux drivers please tell me.. i'd be greatful.. i'm at the edge at the moment.. very fedup
