Hi,

My laptop's wifi is very slow and it appears to be due to the driver or module which is the iwl3945. I'm using Archlinux but have also tested with the latest Linux Mint 14 and get similar results. With wifi dongles I get the expected speed of 6+Mbps which is what my ISP provides, whereas with the Intel 3945 I get about 1Mbps.

I remember getting higher speeds in the past which probably means an update at somepoint messed something. The dongles I compared it to are the TP-Link TL-WN422G and Linksys WUSB54GC. Also here is the output from iwconfig

wlan0 is the Intel card. I've also attached my pacman log . My laptop is an HP Compaq NC6320 and everything is updated. Thanks in advance.

It turns out the problem was NetworkManager. I disabled it and used wicd instead and now I have the expected speed.

Could you please tell, I would like to know...

Do you need to install software driver for the FIRST time for the Intel wireless device ?

Nop, I just followed the Arch Beginner's Installation guide and all my wifi cards worked out of the box. The only packages I had to install were wireless-tools, wpa_supplicant and dialog for connecting. What distro are you using? The module required for the 3945abg is the iwl3945 which I think is part of the linux-firmware package and does not require installation for arch. Check with lsmod if its loaded:

The hardware was mini PCI ? You think I able to use it inside Desktop computer with PCI slot (white color) ?

I'm not sure, but amazon has it as minipci express which is compatible with pci express or usb, although I don't know how you'd connect it exactly.

I have a weird problem after updating with the update-manager ...

When using torrent for dl, it is very slow now, but when using http or ftp it's full speed on 30MBit ..

It sounds more like a problem with torrents and not hardware or driver specific. You should check to see if torrents are blocked, perhaps by a router, in which case you should enable port forwarding for your torrent client through the router's configuration.

Btw I'm not sure but it might be better for you if you started a new thread. This was marked as solved so others might ignore it.
