Dear Friends,

I am very new to Linux, however, I am very enthusiastic about learning and using it. I think of switching to Linux completely instead of Vista from XP. I have a distribution based on Redhat and Fedora.

My ethernet card automatically connects to web. However, I am in trouble to switch to wireless connection due to the driver issues. I have downloaded the following files from sourceforge.net

ipw3945-1.1.0
ieee80211-1.1.14

I have been working on it for 3 nights. However, while installing ieee80211, there is always a problem with subversion. I don't know what it is indeed. Trying to read the warnings and failures, but couldn't a way to solve it.

In one of threads here, one of our friends talked about ndiswrapper. I also downloaded it, installed it and found the XP driver from Intel.com. However, it is still off.

I have the same wireless modem in my house and office. Their WEP passwords are also same. Therefore, in XP, it automatically connects whether I am in the house or office. I would like to do the same for Linux, as well.

My wireless modem is Airties RT 205, should be a compatible model of USRobotics in Turkey. As the subversion has problems, I cannot continue to install ipw3945. It always gives warning messages and talking about out of tree and recommends to force to install the driver or make kernel_patch command. If I make kernel_patch, then it is stuck at add_radiotap.

Can anyone tell me what I should do or where I am making a mistake. I have referred to the readme and install files. However, none of them talks about what has to be done if one of the files are missing and cannot be copied.

Your helps will be highly appreciated.

I don't know about Fedora, but you usualy need 3 packages:
ipw3945 firmware (file ipw3945.ucode located in /lib/firmware)
ipw3945 daemon (usualy package is called ipw3945d)
and proper module for kernel you actualy use.
Then while you system starts ipw daemon which loads proper module with fimware.
So, please look for all three listed packages. If you need further help - you know where to ask.

Have you tried upgrading the ieee80211 subsystem to a newer one?
Mine works flawlessly with ieee80211-1.1.15 but I couldn't get ieee80211-1.1.16 to work at all. Maybe trying a newer version will work?

Thank you very much for the replies. I have tried the latest version of ieee80211, which ends with 16 instead of 15. The result is the same. However, I will try to install the newest intel driver again.
