I'm just joining and I wanted to say hi, and wouldn't you know it, I already have a small issue that I need help with. I am running Slack 12.2 and have pretty much got everything set up the way I want it with the exception of 3D acceleration (or at least I think so).
I have the intel 82865g (i915 driver) loaded and working fine within X. I can also see from glxinfo that DRI is enabled but I'm getting pretty low fps when I run the glxgears test.
Code:
bash-3.1$ glxgears
2629 frames in 5.0 seconds = 525.763 FPS
2660 frames in 5.0 seconds = 531.891 FPS
2656 frames in 5.0 seconds = 531.020 FPS
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"
after 25105 requests (25053 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
bash-3.1$
From the many posts I have read, I haven't been able to quite pinpoint the issue, but this frame rate seems low. See output from glxinfo below:
Your built in graphics chip is not very impressive.. I would actually expect low numbers from an integrated chip of that sort.
Are you saying you have seen posts reporting higher numbers for that Same integrated graphics chip ?
Farslayer thanks for the response. To be honest, I don't know what I should expect from that chip which is part of the reason I posted looking for some insight.
I can tell you that I ran the Scorched3D game with Linux and XP and the performance is terrible under X, but runs great on my XP OS (dual boot same box).
Although everything seems to be configured appropriately, it seems that something isn't quite right because of the performance differences of the same game on the same hardware with 2 different OS's.
glxgears (full-screen) gives me 233.652 FPS with my GeForce Go 6200/6400 and NVIDIA driver. I am perfectly happy with it. I don't tend to play games but "Planet Penguin Racer" is smooth and responsive.
Apart from worrying about the numbers, what is your problem?
Edit: Oops, we seem to have cross-posted. I know nothing about "Scorched3D".
